Strengthening Cooperation at the 17th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting

11 May 23

Our Chief of Navy (CNV) RADM Sean Wat attended the 17th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting (ANCM) on 10 May 2023 in Manila, Philippines. Hosted by the Philippine Navy this year, he joined fellow Navy Chiefs and other senior naval officers from ASEAN member countries to exchange views and ideas on maritime security and cooperation.

“ By working together, we have delivered real operational outcomes, as the information shared cues security agencies to more effectively respond to maritime threats. ”

- RADM Wat spoke about the Information Fusion Centre and its network of International Liaison Officers during his viewpoint exchange at the ANCM, themed "Synergy at Sea: Regional Cohesion for Peace and Stability".

RADM Wat shared how effective information-sharing led to the timely rescue of a passenger vessel which was in distress near the Philippine-Indonesian border.

Held in conjunction with the ANCM was the ASEAN Fleet Review at Rivera Wharf. Our Formidable-class frigate, RSS Supreme, joined the other participating ships in the sailpast, which was reviewed by the Senior Undersecretary Carlito G Galvez Jr, accompanied by GEN Andres C Centino, and the Navy Chiefs and Heads of Delegation from ASEAN navies.

While in Manila, CNV also held bilateral calls with some of his counterparts, including (top row, left to right) Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People's Navy RADM Tran Thanh Nghiem; Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy ADM Cherngchai Chomcherngpat; Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Navy VADM Tea Sokha; (second row, left to right) Flag Officer-in-Command of the Philippine Navy VADM Toribio D Adaci Jr; and Chief of the Indonesian Navy ADM Muhammad Ali.

The RSN's continued participation in ANCM reflects its strong support for practical cooperation in maritime security and continued engagement efforts with navies from the region.
