Singapore's co-chairman, Head Naval Operations RADM Saw Shi Tat (right) emphasised that it was important to enhance the information-sharing efforts so that the appropriate agencies can follow up with a timely and effective response. Malaysia's co-chairman, Assistant Chief of Staff - Defence Operation and Training MG Dato' Haji Noorrul Azril bin Ariffin also suggested to maintain the conduct of VTC meetings as an additional modality to physical meetings for quick response and coordination when necessary.
All JCC co-chairmen agreed to take a proactive stance to address the incident. They reaffirmed the importance of the MSP framework, which is a set of practical cooperative measures undertaken by Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand to ensure the security of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. The co-chairmen also agreed to resume JCC and Joint Working Group meetings at the earliest opportunity. (Although meetings were paused in 2020 due to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, all members continued MSP operations within their own sectors.)
The Information Fusion Centre (IFC), including the International Liaison Officers (ILOs) from MSP member states, also participated in the VTC and provided an update on the area. ILOs play an important role to share actionable information to and from their respective operational centres so that enforcement agencies can respond to developing situations in a timely manner.
