LTA Loo Hui Ling, 26 Outreach Officer, Army Recruitment Centre

While in Temasek Polytechnic, she was looking for a co-curricular activity and was initially drawn to the tennis booth, but the seniors manning the squash booth next to it encouraged her to just sign up and have fun.

She soon fell in love with the sport, so much so that she eventually became the vice-captain of the school team.

"Squash doesn't get a lot of recognition but I think it's a very interesting sport as you have to strategise where to hit the ball in order to get your opponent to run. The training I received has also made me more mentally resilient."

Although she doesn't play as often as she would like these days, she still catches up with her former teammates for an occasional game.

As an Outreach Officer at the Army Recruitment Centre, LTA Loo engages tertiary students through career fairs and talks.

"A lot of them are still unsure of exactly what they want to do, but they're looking for a job that will give them personal development and a sense of purpose and meaning, which I believe the Army can offer."

For LTA Loo, her favourite part about being in the Army is the fact that she gets to take on different appointments every few years.

"This keeps me motivated as I get to set new milestones with every appointment."
