Honouring Singapore's Finest in Defence Technology
29 October 2010

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean presented the Defence Technology Prize (DTP) to three individuals and five teams at the DTP award ceremony held at the Biopolis this afternoon. This year's winners were selected from a total of 15 nominations. Among the winners are individuals and teams from MINDEF agencies, defence industry, academia and research institutes.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr Teo highlighted the need for a "whole-of-ecosystem" approach to provide robust support for the SAF's defence technology needs and said "this indigenous technological defence capability is critical to the SAF because not all our requirements are available on the open market". At the same time, Mr Teo also emphasised that "at the core of the defence ecosystem is people, for it is their interactions that breed the creativity and energy needed to sustain it". Noting the diverse mix of winners at this year's DTP, he said: "This reflects both the breadth and depth of expertise we have nurtured in our defence technology community."
Established in 1989, the DTP is awarded annually to individuals and teams that have made significant technological contributions to the defence capability of Singapore. The DTP also serves to foster technological innovation and encourage breakthroughs in defence science and technology.
