29 July 2025
Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad officiated the 29th Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Senior Military Experts Appointment Ceremony at Temasek Club this evening.
Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad officiated the 29th Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Senior Military Experts Appointment Ceremony at Temasek Club this evening. A total of 202 service personnel, comprising 29 from the Singapore Army, 29 from the Republic of Singapore Navy, 77 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force and 67 from the Digital and Intelligence Service were appointed as Senior Military Expert (MEs) at the appointment ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Zaqy highlighted the importance of MEs and the deep expertise they can bring to SAF to bolster the development of new capabilities, amidst an increasingly uncertain environment. He added that small nations like Singapore may be vulnerable, but it is the people’s courage and collective support of their loved ones that will see the SAF through. He remarked, “There is an interdependency between Singapore’s success and the SAF’s success. Without a strong and credible defence force, the sovereignty of our nation cannot be guaranteed, and without the unwavering support and trust of the public there cannot be a strong SAF.”
Mr Zaqy also emphasised the crucial role that MEs play in leading the next generation and encouraged the MEs as they move on to the next stage of their careers. He said, “As you embark on your journey as a Senior Military expert, you will also be entrusted with the authority to lead the next generation of military experts. Those under your charge will look to you for guidance and direction, so lead with conviction, lead with inspiration, backed up with strong and deep expertise in your domain. It is a tall responsibility and one that calls for you to step up to the mantle with tenacity.”
The appointment ceremony marked the completion of the Military Domain Experts Course, which trained the MEs to assume roles in the SAF where in-depth expertise in areas such as engineering, intelligence, military medicine and cybersecurity is required. The course developed and honed the Senior MEs’ leadership competency, military domain knowledge and specialised skills. The newly appointed Senior MEs will move on to assume leadership or staff appointments in their professional areas.
