Background
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) organise quarterly career and education fairs to facilitate full-time national servicemen (NSF)'s transition to employment and further studies after they complete their National Service. NSFs who are in their last three months of service will be invited to attend the career fair.
From November 2015, MINDEF and MHA will collaborate with the Workforce Development Agency (WDA), Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence (ACCORD) Employer and Business Council, trade associations and chambers to enhance the existing career fairs to better facilitate this transition. This initiative is one of the 30 recommendations by the Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS).
Enhancements
The enhanced career fairs will allow the participating companies to reach out to a wider pool of NSFs who will be joining the workforce or furthering their studies after completing full-time national service. Through the collaboration with WDA, ACCORD, trade associations and chambers, MINDEF and MHA will be able to reach out to a wide range of companies from different sectors and institutes of higher learning (IHLs). The enhanced career fairs will cater to the diverse interests of NSFs, enable NSFs to interact with a wide selection of potential employers and educational institutions, and allow them to better understand the job market and the relevant skills required.
The first enhanced career fair will be held at the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) in November 2015.
