MINDEF Departments
The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) is responsible for formulating and overseeing Singapore’s defence policy. MINDEF comprises various departments that support policy-making, operations, communications, engagement, and organisational development.
Defence Management Group (DMG)
DMG supports MINDEF and the SAF in the areas of manpower, finance, IT, legal, and professional services. It strengthens governance, policies, and systems to enhance Singapore’s defence capability.
Defence Policy Group (DPG)
DPG oversees MINDEF’s defence policy, including its portfolio of bilateral and multilateral defence relations, policy-ops responses to geopolitical developments, and inter-ministry coordination on emerging security threats. It is also responsible for the strategic communications of MINDEF/SAF policies and initiatives, and leads WoG efforts in National Education and Total Defence. DPG comprises:
Defence Policy Office (DPO): Secures Singapore’s peace and security in a dynamic security environment through the formulation of defence policies and strategies to strengthen bilateral defence relations with partner countries, build an open and inclusive regional security architecture, and contribute to international security.
MINDEF Communications Organisation (MCO): Oversees MINDEF/SAF - wide strategic and public communications efforts. Through these efforts, MCO seeks to strengthen public trust and confidence in MINDEF and safeguard and advance Singapore’s national security interests in the information domain.
Nexus: Leads National Education and Total Defence efforts and engages Singaporeans to strengthen commitment to defence through innovative platforms and partnerships.
Defence Technology Collaboration Office (DTCO)
DTCO drives Singapore’s defence technology collaborations to deliver cutting edge capabilities for the SAF through:
Formulating and leading MINDEF’s international and local defence technology collaboration strategy
Fostering and deepening strategic partnerships with governments to advance mutual interests in defence technologies
Hosting and facilitating high-level dialogues for senior government leadership
Assessing global and technological developments to identify opportunities for strategic collaborations
Advancing strategic communication efforts in the defence technology domain
Future Systems and Technology Directorate (FSTD)
FSTD leads the development of game-changing concepts and disruptive technologies to deliver cutting-edge capabilities for the SAF. FSTD does this by:
Developing long term R&D plans for MINDEF/SAF and funding R&D activities.
Developing alternative warfighting concepts alongside SAF.
Driving defence technology innovation and experimentation efforts with the SAF to validate new operational concepts and capabilities.
Collaborating with local and international partners in defence technologies.
Industry and Resources Policy Office (IRPO)
IRPO focuses on policy formulation and governance in defence capability management, industry development, land use and infrastructure, logistics, procurement, technology security, sustainability and civil resources.
Internal Audit Department (IAD)
IAD conducts audits and reviews to provide objective assessment and advice to strengthen internal controls and enhance organisational effectiveness.
Military Security Department (MSD)
As MINDEF/SAF’s counter-intelligence and internal security arm, MSD counters threats such as espionage, subversion, sabotage, and has expanded its role to include counter-terrorism and cybersecurity.
Technology Strategy & Policy Office (TSPO)
TSPO leads strategic planning and technology policy formulation for the Defence Technology Community (DTC). It develops long-term strategies and plans to enable the DTC in providing the SAF with a decisive technological edge, enabled by the office’s focus on (i) technology foresighting to identify emerging technologies and their impact to MINDEF/SAF, (ii) technology capability development and build-up, and (iii) trends and strategies for people development to achieve the DTC’s needs.
Singapore Armed Forces
The SAF comprises the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS), supported by various training institutes, units, and offices.

Singapore Army
The Singapore Army maintains an operationally ready force capable of a full-spectrum of operations including counter-terrorism and homeland security.

Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)
The RSN safeguards Singapore’s sea lines of communication and contributes to regional security.

Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)
The RSAF safeguards Singapore’s skies and provides air power to support national defence and joint operations.

Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS)
The DIS integrates cyber, intelligence, and digital capabilities to safeguard Singapore against threats in the digital domain.

SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI)
SAFTI MI provides coherent and integrated professional development for SAF leaders through joint training.

SAF Band
The SAF Band is the musical ambassador of the SAF that performs at key national and military events, and represents Singapore on the world stage.

Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps (SAFVC)
The SAFVC is a uniformed volunteer scheme that allows women, new citizens, and first-generation Permanent Residents to contribute to national defence.

SAF Inspector’s General Office (IGO)
The SAF IGO oversees safety and compliance across the SAF, and drives the use of data science and artificial intelligence to strengthen safety.

SAF Care Fund
The SAF Care Fund provides additional support to SAF personnel who are severely disabled due to military service.
Defence Technology & Research Organisations
MINDEF/SAF works closely with Singapore’s key defence technology agencies to strengthen our defence ecosystem.

Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA)
DSTA drives innovation and delivers state-of-the-art capabilities to make the SAF a formidable fighting force.

DSO National Laboratories (DSO)
DSO is Singapore’s largest defence research and development organisation, with the critical mission of developing cutting-edge technological solutions

Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies (CSIT)
CSIT harnesses cutting-edge digital technologies to provide advanced cybersecurity and secured digital solutions.
