The monthly NS allowance provides for basic personal upkeep, including the cost of meals. The SAF has reviewed the NS allowance four times over the past decade to ensure that it remains adequate, and will continue to do so regularly.

All NSFs are provided with the same monthly base allowance that is sized for their basic personal upkeep. Rather than directly prescribing specific provisions for them, this allows NSFs the agency to purchase items according to their needs.
