The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) today unveiled plans to mark 50 years of its formation through a series of commemorative and celebratory activities lined up for 2015. These SAF50 activities pay tribute to the people who have contributed to the defence, security and sovereignty of Singapore and aim to inspire present generation of Singaporeans to build an even stronger SAF for the future.
Anchored on the theme of "Our SAF: Giving Strength to Our Nation", the activities highlight how the SAF has contributed towards building a secure and prosperous Singapore. Central to the theme is the emphasis on how the SAF, through the support and commitment of all Singaporeans, gives strength by providing peace, stability, and security in the defence of our nation.
SAF50 celebrations will kick off at SAF50@Vivo with Minister of Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen gracing the occasion on 12 February 2015. SAF50@Vivo is a four-day event showcasing the combined assets and capabilities from the Singapore Army, the Republic of Singapore Navy and the Republic of Singapore Air Force at VivoCity mall from 12 to 15 February 2015. Anchoring the event is the SAF50 exhibition, an interactive and experiential showcase that honours individuals who have contributed towards the defence of Singapore by using their stories to tell the SAF story over the last 50 years. Other key SAF50 events include the SAF Day celebrations in July and the National Day Parade on 9 August 2015.
Singaporeans can also look forward to other exciting activities to acknowledge those who have played a part in Singapore's defence. These include a roving SAF50 exhibition which will travel to various public locations from February to October 2015, a "Thank You" card movement, and online activities.
