Since 1970, the Singapore Armed Forces have participated in a number of peace support operations and humanitarian assistance disaster relief missions at both regional and international levels.

Reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan - 2007 to 2013
The SAF deployed close to 500 personnel to Afghanistan from 2007 to 2013 as part of Singapore's contributions to the multinational stabilisation and reconstruction efforts there. The SAF concluded its mission in June 2013. Operating as part of the International Security Assistance Force, SAF personnel contributed their expertise in humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts, force protection, imagery analyses, as well as in the training of the Afghanistan National Security Forces.
Peacekeeping mission in Timor-Leste - 1999 to 2003, 2008 to 2012
Between 1999 and 2003, as well as between 2008 and 2012, the SAF, in support of the UN peacekeeping mission in Timor-Leste, contributed over 1000 personnel and equipment like Landing Ships Tank (LSTs) and UH-1H helicopters in the international effort to restore peace and security to Timor-Leste.
Tsunami relief operations - 2004
The SAF deployed three LSTs, eight CH-47 Chinooks, four Super Puma helicopters, six C-130 transport aircraft and two F-50 utility aircraft for the relief effort.
Christchurch earthquake relief operations - 2011
During the New Zealand earthquake in February 2011, 116 SAF personnel, a C-130 transport aircraft and a KC-135 tanker aircraft were deployed to Christchurch to provide disaster relief and to support the evacuation of civilians and emergency workers.
