Second Minister for Defence Visits SAF Armour

Second Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing visited SAF Armour today. As part of his visit, Mr Chan was updated on the Army's Training Transformation and how training in both the classroom and the field is becoming more engaging, effective and efficient.

At the Armour Simulator Centre, Mr Chan tried out the Leopard Driving Training Simulator (LDTS). The simulator allows soldiers to experience realistic driving training even before operating the actual platform.

It also allows soldiers to train in different scenarios, including adverse conditions not feasible to replicate in field training, in order to hone the basic and collective skills of our soldiers.Mr Chan then took part in a live firing in the SAFTI Live Firing Area, utilising the Army Live Firing Range Enhancement (ALFRE) system. ALFRE uses instrumented target systems to improve realism and training experience during live firings. With the new systems, soldiers can fire on moving targets in local training, receive gunnery feedback which allows soldiers to improve their skills and competencies as well as reduce time and resources spent on administrative set-up.

At the end of his visit, Mr Chan officiated at the 45th Anniversary Parade of the SAF Armour Formation. In his speech delivered during the parade, he said, "From what I've seen today, I have every confidence that the Armour Formation will live up to the spirit of the pioneering generation and continue to push forward with boldness and decisiveness.

So Armour, as a family, must never forget that you are not a tactical force for the SAF - you are a strategic force for the SAF."
