Rear-Admiral (RADM) (Rtd) Bengt Jarvid was conferred the Singapore Defence Technology Distinguished Fellowship by Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence this afternoon.

The Singapore Defence Technology Distinguished Fellowship was established in 1996 to recognise individuals who have contributed significantly to bilateral defence technology cooperation. The award was conferred on RADM (Rtd) Jarvid in recognition of his outstanding contributions in strengthening defence technology cooperation and his invaluable role in strengthening the broader bilateral defence cooperation between Singapore and Sweden. 

As Special Advisor in the Swedish Ministry of Defence from September 2007 to December 2012, RADM (Rtd) Jarvid was co-chair of the Sweden-Singapore Research and Development Bilateral Meeting. Under his leadership, bilateral cooperation in Research and Development grew strongly across a broad spectrum of technology areas. RADM (Rtd) Jarvid also played an important role in fostering bilateral defence cooperation and in facilitating the acquisition of the Archer-class submarines for the Republic of Singapore Navy when he was Sweden’s Defence Attaché to Singapore from June 2003 to June 2007.
