SAF Operationally-Ready National Serviceman Suffers Cardiac Arrest After Completing IPPT 2.4km Run

A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Operationally-Ready National Serviceman, Corporal (CPL) (NS) Gan Theng Kiong, 34, suffered a cardiac arrest on 18 Nov 2013 at 9.15am after completing his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) 2.4km run at Selarang Camp. CPL(NS) Gan has no known prior medical history or existing condition.

An SAF medic immediately attended to him on-site and he was sent to Selarang Camp Medical Centre at 9.20am, where CPR was performed on him. CPL(NS) Gan was later brought to Changi General Hospital (CGH) by an SAF ambulance, and resuscitation continued en route. CPL(NS) Gan arrived at CGH at 9.50am, and subsequently underwent an emergency procedure. CPL(NS) Gan is currently warded in the Intensive Care Unit and is closely monitored by CGH specialists.

The SAF is currently providing assistance to CPL(NS) Gan's family.
