President Tony Tan Keng Yam Visits SAF Troops in Brunei

As part of his State Visit to Brunei, President Tony Tan Keng Yam visited Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) servicemen supporting the SAF's training in Brunei today.

During his visit, President Tan commended the SAF servicemen for their professionalism and commitment. President Tan also emphasised the relevance of National Service and its importance in ensuring Singapore's defence.

President Tan's visit underscores the strong and long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and Brunei. In addition to regular training which SAF troops conduct in Brunei, both defence establishments conduct a wide range of bilateral exercises and professional exchanges which have enhanced the professionalism and strengthened the ties between the two armed forces.

During the visit, President Tan was accompanied by Mrs Tan, Bruneian Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Singapore Minister for Health Gan Kim Yong, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Manpower Hawazi Daipi, Members of Parliament Ong Teng Koon and Alex Yam, Chief of Army Major-General Ravinder Singh and other senior SAF officials.
