The Commander of the United States Pacific Command (US PACOM), Admiral (ADM) Samuel J. Locklear, called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence this afternoon.
ADM Locklear, who is in Singapore on an introductory visit from 31 May to 4 June 2013, in conjunction with the 12th Shangri-La Dialogue, had earlier called on Chief of Defence Force Major-General Ng Chee Meng after inspecting a Guard of Honour. During these meetings, both sides reaffirmed the close and long-standing bilateral defence relationship and professional cooperation between both defence forces, and reiterated their commitment to continue to strengthen defence ties.
As part of his visit programme, ADM Locklear also called on Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean on 31 May 2013. He will visit Changi Naval Base and Changi Command and Control Centre later this afternoon.
ADM Locklear's visit underscores the excellent defence relationship between Singapore and the US. The Singapore Armed Forces and US PACOM interact extensively through visits, bilateral and multilateral exercises, and professional exchanges. These interactions have enhanced the interoperability between the two armed forces, as well as the rapport and mutual understanding among their personnel.
