The annual TD campaign reaches out to agencies or organisations from the 3P (people, public and private) sectors to expand and deepen the outreach of the campaign. Two new partners that have come onboard for TD 2012 are the Halogen Foundation Singapore and National Resuscitation Council (NRC).
With the aim of inspiring and influencing young women to lead themselves and others well, Halogen Foundation Singapore will be holding the National Young Women Leaders' Day Symposium on 3 Mar 12, in partnership with the Singapore Council of Women's Organisation (SCWO). Speakers at the symposium will be sharing their personal stories on the theme "Design our future" to inspire the participants (1,200 girls from Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges, Polytechnics and Tertiary Institutions) and convey the message that it is their generation's turn to live out their dreams and build their own future and contribute back to society. The Guest of Honour for the event is Mdm Halimah Yacob, Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports. Confirmed speakers for the symposium are:
NRC, which was set up by the Ministry of Health in 1998 and placed under the administrative charge of National Heart Centre, collaborated with Nexus for TD 2012 to bring the message of creating a "heart-safe" community to more Singaporeans. In line with the Civil Defence aspect of TD, NRC organised a 3-hour mass CPR+AED training workshop on TD Day (i.e., 15 Feb 12) for students and staff at ITE College West (100 pax), Raffles Institution (270 pax) and Singapore Polytechnic (400 pax) to learn life-saving skills. The workshop incorporated hands-on elements like interactive training, case scenarios and individual practice, and ended with a short theory test (10 x MCQ questions) and a practical skills test. Successful candidates were certified as providers of these skills for two years.
In line with the campaign objective of inspiring Singaporeans to take up the duty of keeping Singapore safe, SCDF engaged students and guests at the TD Day event held at four locations (i.e., ITE College West, Raffles Institution, Singapore Polytechnic and Tampines Junior College) through exhibits and displays on fire-fighting, hazmat, as well as chemical agent equipment and suits. Students and guests also had the opportunity to try out the different types of suits.
To raise Singaporeans' awareness of their role in civil defence, SPF showcased their crime prevention efforts at the TD Day event held at the four locations. Students and guests also learnt about SPF's equipment through interactive games.
From 15 Feb to 23 Mar 12, POSB will be organising an inter-school (for primary and secondary schools only) contest titled "My Turn to Save" which seeks to encourage students to use their creativity to identify an iconic Singapore symbol they would want to protect and build the symbol using recycled materials (plastics bottles, old boxes, drink cans, etc). The winners of the Most Creative category and Most Popular category will each receive S$1,000 Popular book vouchers.
From 1 Mar to 31 May 12, Sakae Sushi will be holding a special promotion in their outlets where one healthy Sakae Signature* Special will be donated to Sakae Sushi's beneficiaries from the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) Fernvale Gardens School, Radin Mas (Elderly) and Canossian School for every five Sakae Signatures sold.
