Fact Sheet: N.E.mation! 5

About N.E.mation!

Into its fifth season this year, N.E.mation! has proven highly successful, with more than 5,200 students participating since its inception in 2007. With training and guidance, students with no prior experience in animation were able to produce clips of broadcast quality to screen on free-to-air television. Some of these clips were even selected for international animation festivals and won several awards.

This year, students were asked to use their creativity to produce storylines centred around the theme of "Home - We make or break". A total of 2,038 students from 604 teams sent in their stories, a 37% increase in participation from last year. The animation clips of the top 10 finalist teams were judged by industry professionals such as Raman Hui (Animation Supervisor, DreamWorks Animation SKG). In addition, the public voted for their three favourite clips in January 2011 at www.nemation.sg, Facebook or via SMS. The winning team will win a coveted visit to DreamWorks Animation in the US!

For the first time, a category for tertiary students was set up in 2010 to extend the competition to polytechnic and university students. Participating teams undertook the entire production process independently. Their production included digital 3D elements. This pilot season saw six entries from four institutions.
