Every year, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) awards the Defence Technology Prize (DTP) to scientists and engineers in recognition of their roles in strengthening Singapore's defence capabilities. Established in 1989, this award has since grown in standing and importance, and is now considered one of the most prestigious awards given at the national level by MINDEF.
Nominations
The DTP is open to individuals and teams who have devoted much time and effort in augmenting the defence capabilities and security of Singapore. Teams may also comprise members from different organisations.
Winning the DTP 2010A judging panel chaired by MINDEF's Chief Defence Scientist Quek Tong Boon selected five team and three individual award winners from 15 entries, received for DTP 2010. All individual winners will receive a trophy and a certificate. Organisations that have participated and won the Team Awards will also be presented with a trophy. Each team member will in turn receive a Certificate of Commendation for his/her role in the project.
DTP Individual (R&D) AwardThe award is presented to individuals who have made remarkable contributions in pioneering innovative R&D for Singapore's defence science and technology. These individuals have also established themselves as a leading authority in a critical area of defence technology. The winners in this category for DTP 2010 are:1) Prof Pan Tso-Chien, Dean, College of Engineering and Director, Protective Technology Research Centre, Nanyang Technological University2) Ms Ngo Yuen Choo, Distinguished Member of Technical Staff, DSO National Laboratories.
DTP Individual (Engineering) AwardThe award is presented to individuals who have contributed significantly to the creation of useful defence applications for Singapore and have established themselves as a leading authority in a critical area of defence technology. The winner in this category for DTP 2010 is Mr Loh Heng Fong, Vice-President and Head of Tracked Mobility Centre in Singapore Technologies Kinetics (ST Kinetics).DTP Team (R&D) AwardThe award is presented to teams for their accomplishments in research and development to enhance the defence capabilities and security of Singapore. The winner in this category for DTP 2010 is the Radio Frequency Team from DSO National Laboratories (DSO).DTP Team (Engineering) AwardThe award is presented to teams for their outstanding achievements in the delivery of highly complex engineering solutions and integrated systems in MINDEF's acquisition programmes. The winners in this category for DTP 2010 are:1) The Guided System Team - DSO, Defence Science & Technology Agency (DSTA), ST Kinetics2) The TERREX Infantry Carrier Vehicle Team - DSTA, the Singapore Army, ST Kinetics3) The Comprehensive Maritime Awareness Team - DSTA, Republic of Singapore Navy, DSO, Singapore Technologies Electronics (InfoSoft)4) The G550-AEW Team - DSTA, DSO, Republic of Singapore Air Force, Singapore Technologies Aerospace, Singapore Technologies Electronics
