Fact Sheet: Basic Military Training (BMT) Graduation Parade

The Basic Military Training (BMT) Graduation Parade will be held for the first time at the Marina Bay Floating Platform (MBFP) on 2 October 2010. This graduating cohort comprises 3078 recruits from 13 BMT companies.

Previously, BMT Graduation Parades would be held over a few days at the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) in Pulau Tekong. This time, the Graduation Parade will be combined and held at the MBFP in the heart of Singapore. It is a meaningful venue to celebrate the recruits' graduation from BMT while reminding them of what they will be defending. The venue is also more accessible for the family members and friends of the recruits to attend the Graduation Parade.

Prior to the Graduation Parade, these recruits will have to undergo a 24km route march. The route march will begin from the Singapore Armed Forces Ferry Terminal and end at the Formula One Pit Building area.

These recruits were enlisted into the BMTC in May, June and July 2010 for the Physical Training Phase (PTP) and BMT course. BMT lays the foundation by equipping recruits with the basic military skills and knowledge to enable them to undertake more advanced and demanding training later in their National Service. It teaches them the physical, technical and regimental aspects of soldiering and aims to instil a deeper sense of purpose in their service.

The Graduation Parade marks the completion of BMT and the transition of recruits into combat trained soldiers. It is a defining moment for the recruits as well as their family and friends.
