460 Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) from 290 companies and organisations, and their employers gathered for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Day Combined Rededication Ceremonies (CRCs) held at four locations around Singapore this morning to reaffirm their commitment to the defence of Singapore.
Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing officiated at the rededication ceremony organised by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI), at the SCCCI Building. During his closing remarks, he said, “I want to thank you all – the business community, servicemen and women on duty, and families... because you are the people who are doing the extraordinary work behind for us to have an ordinary day in Singapore... for us to have every normal day, every ordinary day itself, is an effort amidst all the turmoil of the world. Thank you all for being the extraordinary behind the ordinary.” An SAF Day video, showcasing the tireless efforts of the SAF servicemen and women to safeguard Singapore’s daily way of life, was also screened at the four CRC locations.
Minister for National Development Mr Chee Hong Tat, Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health Mr Ong Ye Kung, and Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr Masagos Zulkifli officiated at the other three rededication ceremonies organised by Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, Singapore Business Federation, and Singapore Manufacturing Federation, respectively.
As the bedrock of our national security, strong societal support for NS is critical for the continued survival and success of Singapore. First held in 1987, the SAF Day CRCs serve as an opportunity for NSmen and their employers to reaffirm their commitment to defence and reflect on their roles and responsibilities in the defence of Singapore.
