Permanent Secretary for Defence Chiang Chie Foo hosted a dinner this evening for about 200 participating organisations and stakeholders in appreciation of their support and contributions to this year's Total Defence (TD) campaign, themed "Home - Keeping It Together". Mr Chiang presented tokens of appreciation to artistes, partners from the public, private and people sectors, as well as N.E.mation! 5 judges and sponsors for their efforts and commitment in making TD 2011 a success. The TD 2011 campaign, which was anchored on the remake of the well-loved Singaporean classic, "Home", featured a tie-up with Community Chest where every download of the music video from the campaign website was matched by a $1 donation from local organisations towards helping the elderly and needy families.
Due to overwhelming support for the campaign, the final amount raised from the "Click for Charity" campaign drive was increased to $300,000 from the initial target of $200,000. To signify the culmination of Singaporeans' efforts, Mr Chiang presented a cheque for $300,000 to Ms Jennie Chua, Chairman of Community Chest. During the event, prizes were also awarded to the winners of the "Make Your Own Home Video (MYOHV)" and POSB's "Build and Protect our Home" competitions. The MYOHV contest, which ran from 2 Jan to 31 Mar 2011, invited Singaporeans to share what "home" meant to them. It garnered a total of 883 video submissions and over 37,000 votes from the public, and ten winning entries were honoured in the Most Popular Video and Most Creative Video categories. POSB's "Build and Protect our Home" competition was held from 15 Feb to 11 Mar 2011, and called on young students from 16 primary schools to think about a symbol of what they would defend in Singapore, before creating the symbol using 1,000 coin boxes provided by POSB. The Most Popular award went to students from St. Hilda's Primary School, while Princess Elizabeth Primary School came up tops in the Most Creative award category.
