NSmen and Employers Reaffirm Their Commitment to Defence

Over 500 Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) from 471 companies and their employers gathered for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Day Combined Rededication Ceremonies held at four locations around Singapore this morning to reaffirm their commitment to the defence of Singapore.

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen officiated at the rededication ceremony held at the University Cultural Centre, where he delivered the SAF Day message to remind Singaporeans of the importance of a strong and capable SAF to protect the nation's sovereignty and our way of life. Citing the commemoration of Singapore's Bicentennial this year, Dr Ng said, "In keeping with the historic occasion, the National Day Parade will be held at the Padang so that we can re-enact 200 years of progress for our country… NSmen, family members, the community together with the SAF hardware, will symbolise what gives strength to our nation through the SAF." Dr Ng added, "The strength of the SAF today is a tribute and testament to the men and women of the SAF, including more than 1 million NSmen who have done their duty year after year. Together, we have forged an SAF that is an advanced, modern fighting force and one that we can all be proud of to protect Singapore… On this SAF Day, I thank each of you for keeping Singapore safe and secure."

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Mr Lawrence Wong, and Minister, Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Finance and Education Ms Indranee Rajah officiated at the other three rededication ceremonies held at Temasek Polytechnic, Trade Association Hub and Gateway Theatre respectively.
