
Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen will be in Brunei from 29 to 30 August 2016 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of defence relations between Singapore and Brunei.
During his visit, Dr Ng will have an audience with the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, and the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei Darussalam, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, as well as meet with other Bruneian ministers. As part of his programme, Dr Ng will witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning Defence Technology Cooperation between Singapore and Brunei. He will also visit Exercise Pelican, a bilateral naval exercise that is being conducted for the 35th time by the Republic of Singapore Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy.
Singapore and Brunei have enjoyed close defence cooperation since 1976. This long-standing defence relationship has deepened as the interactions between the Singapore Armed Forces and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces grew in scope and complexity over the years. Both armed forces regularly interact through a wide range of activities, such as bilateral exercises, regular visits and professional exchanges.
