Senior Minister of State for Defence, Mr Zaqy Mohamad visited a Mobilisation Exercise (MOBEX) conducted at Selarang Camp today, as part of Exercise SG Ready 2026 (ESR 2026).

Senior Minister of State for Defence, Mr Zaqy Mohamad visited a Mobilisation Exercise (MOBEX) conducted at Selarang Camp today, as part of Exercise SG Ready 2026 (ESR 2026). Approximately 3,000 Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) from the 9th Singapore Division (9 DIV) were activated for the MOBEX. Such exercises validate that our NS forces, facilities, and mobilisation processes can operate smoothly and effectively, and that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) remains ready.
During the visit, Mr Zaqy observed NSmen undergoing mission-essential checks and safety briefings, before proceeding to refresher stations to maintain key soldiering fundamentals, including weapons technical handling and combat medical aid. Mr Zaqy was also briefed on the mobilisation plan and observed the unit’s mobilisation status updates through the SAF’s digitised mobilisation processes.
Mr Zaqy highlighted the operational readiness and commitment of NSmen, and appreciated the efforts made by their families and employers that enabled them to respond when called upon. He said, “This reflects the commitment, dedication of our NSmen and the readiness of our units… This military recall also reflects how the whole of Singapore comes together for Exercise SG Ready as part of our Total Defence exercise”.
He also underscored the importance of leveraging the diverse civilian skills sets and experiences of our NSmen, and the need for Singapore to be prepared against evolving threats. He said, “If you think about our NSmen, many of them have careers and have built exposures, skill sets in various domains … Given the evolving military landscape, we hope to leverage on their skill sets and experience a bit more, to give them more meaningful use of their time in National Service.”
In conjunction with ESR 2026, a peacetime Civil Resource Mobilisation Requisition Exercise (CRX) was conducted on 17 January 2026 to exercise Singapore’s Whole-of-Nation readiness. Civil resource companies were mobilised to test the responsiveness of civil resource owners and the readiness of designated civil assets. The companies demonstrated strong familiarity with activation protocols and reported to assigned locations within stipulated timelines.[1]The CRX validated close coordination between the SAF and civilian agencies during national emergencies and reinforced the SAF’s ability to mobilise swiftly, including the activation of NSmen. This year’s exercise also saw the participation of the SAF Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) personnel as part of ongoing efforts to expand and deepen their involvement in SAF mobilisation activities, underscoring the collective contribution of Singaporeans towards Total Defence.
About Exercise SG Ready 2026
Exercise SG Ready 2026 is co-led by MINDEF and our key partners; the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Energy Market Authority (EMA), the People’s Association (PA) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). Exercise SG Ready 2026 will return for its third edition, which will be held from 1 February to 15 February at various locations on different dates across the island. Set against the backdrop of geopolitical uncertainties and hybrid threats, the exercise aims to encourage everyone to PLAN for disruptions, PREPARE to respond, and PLAY YOUR PART to keep Singapore strong. Organisations, schools and units from educational, community, businesses and government sectors will carry out different disruption or preparedness activities across the two-week exercise period to strengthen their business continuity plans for degraded digital connectivity and prolonged power outages. The aim of Exercise SG Ready is to encourage individuals, communities and businesses to reflect on the question: "Are you ready for disruptions?” and put Total Defence into action through contingency plans. More information on the exercise can be found on the Exercise SG Ready website (https://go.gov.sg/exercisesgready).
