National Geographic Channel’s Publicity Event for the “Every Singaporean Son 2” TV Series

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) collaborated with the National Geographic Channel (NGC) to reversion the cyberpioneerTV web series “Every Singaporean Son 2: The Making of An Officer” (ESS 2) for television. The television series was to premiere on 6 Aug 2013.
As part of NGC’s efforts to publicise the series premiere, NGC ran a lunch time publicity event outside the Raffles Place MRT station on 2 Aug 13.,In response to public feedback and queries about the publicity event, the following clarifications were posted in cyberpioneer Facebook.
2 August 2013:,Hi guys, the "Every Singaporean Son 2" publicity event outside Raffles Place MRT station this afternoon was an initiative by the National Geographic Channel (NGC) to create awareness on the launch of the TV series. We would like to clarify that all "soldiers" involved in this publicity event were paid actors and none of them were full-time National Servicemen. The event was neither run by nor sponsored by MINDEF/SAF. The use of SAF uniforms was also not endorsed by us. We are glad that there is a strong sense of respect for uniforms and the portrayal of our soldiers. We thank everyone for registering their concerns on this matter.
That said, we would still like to express our continued support for the broadcast of the "Every Singaporean Son 2" TV series on NGC.

NGC will be responding separately on this matter.,,4 August 2013:,Hi everyone, just to clarify, the publicity event at Raffles Place was run independently by NGC. The cyberpioneer team was aware of it and helped publicise it because the "Every Singaporean Son 2" TV series is a MINDEF collaboration with NGC. However, the use of uniforms at the event came as an unpleasant surprise, because we had previously told them not to use SAF uniforms for any publicity event. We have conveyed our disappointment to NGC and they have apologised unreservedly to all Singaporeans offended by the activity.
