Defence Engineers and Scientists Honoured for Excellence and Innovation in Defence Technology

Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing presented the Defence Technology Prize (DTP) to one individual and three teams at the DTP Award Ceremony held at DSO National Laboratories this afternoon.
Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing presented the Defence Technology Prize (DTP) to one individual and three teams at the DTP Award Ceremony held at DSO National Laboratories this afternoon. This award recognises contributions that have helped the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) maintain its sharp edge in defence capabilities.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr Chan highlighted how emerging technologies are reshaping the character of warfare, and the need for Singapore to proactively harness these technologies to overcome its strategic constraints. He said, “For Singapore, emerging technologies present opportunities that are particularly significant. They offer new ways to overcome constraints that have shaped our strategic calculations for decades.” He added, “The future, however, will not simply arrive at our doorstep. We must have the courage to shape it.”
Mr Chan also emphasised the importance of sustained investments in defence technological expertise and recognised the contributions of generations of defence scientists, engineers and operators in strengthening Singapore's defence capabilities. Highlighting the achievements of this year's DTP recipients, he said, “The achievements we celebrate tonight did not emerge overnight. They are built upon generations of work by engineers, scientists, operators and commanders who invested in capabilities whose full value would only be realised years later.” He added, “Your work strengthens not only the SAF's capabilities, but Singapore's confidence that whatever challenges lie ahead, we will be prepared to meet them.”
Established in 1989, the DTP is awarded annually to individuals and teams that have made significant technological contributions to the defence capabilities of Singapore. The DTP also serves to foster technological innovation and encourage breakthroughs in defence science and technology
