FPDA Naval Leadership Call on Senior Minister of State for Defence on the Sidelines of IMDEX Asia

Naval leadership of the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) member-nations, Chief of the Royal Australian Navy Vice Admiral (VADM) Mark Hammond, Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy Admiral (ADM) Datuk Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, Chief of the Royal New Zealand Navy Rear Admiral (RADM) Garin Golding, Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy RADM Sean Wat, as well as Director Develop and Controller of the Royal Navy RADM James Parkin jointly called on Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad at the Changi Exhibition Centre today. The joint call was conducted on the sidelines of the International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEX) Asia 2025.

The FPDA naval leadership reaffirmed their commitment to the FPDA, and emphasised its strategic importance and enduring relevance in an evolving security landscape. They also exchanged views with Mr Zaqy on the importance of strengthening multilateral ties and contributing to regional peace and security.

Established in 1971, the FPDA is a constructive and transparent multilateral arrangement that is an integral part of the regional security architecture. As the FPDA continues to enhance the professional value of conventional exercises, it also incorporates non-conventional elements such as counter-terrorism, maritime security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to keep up with evolving security challenges. The regular conduct of large-scale conventional exercises, dialogues, and platforms for professional interactions allows member-nations to share professional knowledge and enhance interoperability amongst their militaries.
