Ministers Agree on Importance of Credible Partnerships to Secure Global Peace

Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing hosted 31 visiting Ministers and their representatives to a Roundtable-discussion today, in conjunction with the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD). The Ministerial Roundtable is a regular feature of the SLD.
Highlighting the increasing complexity of challenges in the current geopolitical environment, the Ministers had an exchange on the need to be credible partners in defence cooperation, including the need to sustain political commitment and strengthen domestic support for defence. To work together on global security, the Ministers discussed how defence establishments can buffer against future disruptions, including by investing in new and emerging technologies as well as building up defence industrial base cooperation to sustain long-term capabilities.
The Ministers reaffirmed the critical importance of continued strategic dialogue and practical cooperation to build confidence, keep channels of communication open, and reduce the risk of misinterpretation and misunderstanding. The Ministers also underscored the importance of regional cooperation through groupings like ASEAN to ensure regional peace and stability.
