Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen will be in Honolulu, Hawaii from 1 to 4 August 2018 (Singapore time) for a working visit. While in Hawaii, Dr Ng will visit troops from the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) participating in the Rim of the Pacific Exercise (Ex RIMPAC). Ex RIMPAC is hosted by the United States (US) Pacific Fleet and held in the waters off Hawaii from 28 Jun to 3 August 2018 (Singapore time). This year’s exercise involves assets from 24 other countries including 45 ships, five submarines, about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel.
During the visit, Dr Ng will attend a reception on the RSN’s Formidable-class frigate RSS Tenacious. Guests at the reception will include officers from the US and participating ASEAN Navies. Dr Ng will also visit the US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM).
Dr Ng’s visit reflects Singapore’s support for the US’ regional engagement efforts and the strong and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and the US.
