The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) have concluded the bilateral naval exercise, Exercise Pelican. Held from 28 to 29 October 2018, this year's exercise was the 37th in the series, and saw the participation of RSN's Formidable-class frigate RSS Stalwart and RBN's Darussalam-class patrol vessel KDB Daruttaqwa during their transit back after the ASEAN-China Maritime Exercise.
As part of Exercise Pelican, the two navies conducted various serials such as communications and manoeuvring exercises.
Highlighting the important role of the exercise in reinforcing the strong relationship between the RSN and RBN, Commanding Officer of RSS Stalwart, Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Aaron Li said, "We have close ties between our navies. I am glad to have the opportunity to further strengthen these ties. Exercise Pelican remains a key platform to enhance relations and strengthen cooperation between the RSN and RBN."
Established in 1979, Exercise Pelican underscores the close and long-standing defence ties between Singapore and Brunei. The exercise enhances mutual cooperation, understanding, and interoperability between the RSN and RBN. Besides Exercise Pelican, the RSN and RBN also interact regularly through a range of activities, including visits and professional exchange programmes. These interactions have reinforced the strong bonds between the two navies.
