Singapore and Brunei to Enhance Cooperation in Defence Technology

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen and Bruneian Deputy Minister of Defence Yang Mulia First Admiral (FADM) (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohammad Tamit, witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning Defence Technology Cooperation (DT MOU) by Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) Ng Chee Khern and Permanent Secretary of Bruneian Ministry of Defence Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, at the Brunei Ministry of Defence today. In addition to the current collaboration between both countries, the DT MOU provides a framework for Singapore and Brunei to work on capability programmes together. The DT MOU marks the start of the official cooperation between both countries for defence technology.
Prior to the signing of the DT MOU, Dr Ng met with FADM (Rtd) Dato Aziz and inspected the Guard of Honour at the Brunei Ministry of Defence. As part of his programme, Dr Ng also met with Bruneian Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Pehin Lim Jock Seng. The Ministers discussed regional security developments and the importance of enhancing regional cooperation against the clear and present threat of terrorism.
Dr Ng is visiting Brunei from 29 to 30 August 2016 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of defence relations between Singapore and Brunei. He will be having an audience with the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, and the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei Darussalam, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, tomorrow. Dr Ng will also visit Exercise Pelican, a bilateral naval exercise conducted by the Republic of Singapore Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy.
