The Chief of Army of the New Zealand Defence Force Major General (MG) John Boswell called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. During their meeting, Dr Ng and MG Boswell reaffirmed the warm and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between the two armies.
MG Boswell, who is in Singapore for an introductory visit from 26 to 29 October 2021, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melyvn Ong and Chief of Army MG Goh Si Hou, and reviewed a Guard of Honour at MINDEF. MG Boswell also visited the Multi-Mission Range Complex yesterday and will be visiting the Headquarters Army Intelligence later today.
MG Boswell's visit to Singapore underscores the strong partnership between the Singapore Army and the New Zealand Army. Both armies interact regularly through bilateral exercises such as Exercise Thunder Warrior and Exercise Kiwi Walk, professional exchanges, and overseas deployments. Both defence establishments also interact under the ambit of the Five Power Defence Arrangements, which marked its 50th anniversary this year, and the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus. These extensive and mutually beneficial interactions have deepened the bilateral defence relationship, and strengthened the cooperation and professional rapport between the two defence establishments.
Relevant health checks and safety measures were taken by the visiting delegation.
