Malaysian Armed Forces Chief of Defence Forces Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore

Malaysian Armed Forces Chief of Defence Forces General (Gen) Datuk Hj Mohd Nizam bin Hj Jaffar called on Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) earlier today. During the call, Mr Chan and GEN Nizam reaffirmed the warm and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Malaysia, and the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation and people-to-people ties between the Singapore Armed Forces and the Malaysian Armed Forces.

Gen Nizam, who is on his introductory visit to Singapore from 27 to 28 May 2025, also called on Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng after inspecting the Guard of Honour at MINDEF. As part of his programme, Gen Nizam gave a speech at SAFTI MI as a guest speaker under its Distinguished Speaker’s Series. Thereafter, he visited the Republic of Singapore Navy’s Information Fusion Centre and the Counter-Terrorism Information Facility at RSS Singapura – Changi Naval Base, where he was briefed on the efforts to strengthen multilateral cooperation in tackling maritime security and terrorism threats respectively. Gen Nizam will also be attending the 23rd Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) Defence Chiefs' Conference and the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue.

Gen Nizam’s visit underscores the warm and long-standing bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Malaysia. Both countries' armed forces interact regularly through a wide range of activities, including bilateral exercises, visits and professional exchanges, cross-attendance of courses, as well as through multilateral platforms like the FPDA, the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), and ADMM-Plus. These interactions have strengthened professional ties and mutual understanding between personnel from both armed forces.
