Fact Sheet: Total Defence Murder Mystery Role-Playing Game Video Series

The Total Defence Murder Mystery Role-Playing Game Video is a three-part video series and it is one of four ground-up initiatives to be implemented under the Total Defence Sandbox (TD Sandbox). The developers of the Murder Mystery Role-Playing Game Video are two university students who are game design enthusiasts.

Featuring celebrities such as Tosh Zhang, along with Mister Young and Colin Tan from Power 98, Jimmy Koh from 88.3JIA and more, the video series hope to further engage youths on how they can play a part in the fight against terrorism and self-radicalisation.

About The Total Defence Murder Mystery Role-Playing Game Video Series

The Total Defence Murder Mystery Role-Playing Game is an immersive social deduction game for up to seven players and it explores the evolving security threats which Singapore faces, such as terrorism and climate change.

Synopsis of the video

ECOTECH is a research organisation that investigates climate threats. One day, a spine-chilling nursery rhyme - "The Melody of Waves" - begins to play within ECOTECH, with lyrics resembling a doomsday prophecy. In the midst of this turmoil, the CEO of ECOTECH arranges an internal meeting with some of the organisation's key stakeholders. As the staff arrives at the conference room, they discover the CEO's dead body.

The video series show the players role-playing as suspects in a fictional crime scene, collecting evidence, and deducing the identity of the murderer. Players will need to find out who is the murderer through discussions and cooperation. One of the players will take on the role of the murderer, and only the murderer can lie.

Total Defence Sandbox

In a bid to encourage youths to develop better resonance and greater ownership of Total Defence, MINDEF's Nexus launched the TD Sandbox campaign in 2022 to encourage youths to start and co-create ground-up initiatives for Total Defence. It also aims to raise awareness on the emerging threats our country faces and encourage innovative solutions to address these threats.

TD Sandbox initiatives are selected based on community impact, innovativeness, and alignment to Total Defence values, and they demonstrate how Total Defence can foster thinking, engagement and conversations on threats and challenges that affect our everyday life.
