Employers and Civil Resource Owners Recognised for Contributions to Total Defence

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean presented the top Total Defence award, the Minister for Defence Award, to 10 employers and civil resource owners at the Total Defence Awards presentation ceremony this evening.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean presented the top Total Defence award, the Minister for Defence Award, to 10 employers and civil resource owners at the Total Defence Awards presentation ceremony this evening. The Total Defence awards are presented to employers who have put in special effort to support and encourage their employees in fulfilling their National Service commitments, and civil resource owners who have made their vehicles, equipment and other resources readily available to the Singapore Armed Forces during resource requisition exercises.
Thanking the employers and civil resource owners at the ceremony, Mr Teo said, "It is the commitment of all of us - individuals, corporations and organisations - to play a part in Total Defence that makes the security and stability that we enjoy possible." He added, "This evening, we recognise the special efforts and sacrifices that you and your companies have
made in support of national service and the Total Defence of Singapore. I hope that through your work and what you do, this will inspire other companies to do the same, to do their part, so that together we can build a safe and secure nation, a strong economy and a cohesive society."
Mr Teo also presented certificates of appointment to 17 Honorary Minister for Defenc Awards (MiDAs) League members who had displayed strong commitment towards Total Defence for the past 5 years. They were the first MiDAs League members to receive theHonorary title for showing exemplary support for national service. Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen and Minister of State for Defence Associate Professor Koo Tsai Kee also presented the Distinguished Defence Partner Award and Meritorious Defence Partner Award respectively to companies.
Introduced in 1984, Total Defence brings together all Singaporeans in a comprehensive framework to face and overcome challenges of any kind. Support for Total Defence by employers and civil resource owners has grown steadily over the years, with about 400 companies honoured for their outstanding contributions to Total Defence this year, including 152 companies receiving the award for the first time.
