Minister for Defence Joins Army to Celebrate NS50 at AOH17@City

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen visited the Army Open House 2017 in the City (AOH17@City) this afternoon. Hosted by Chief of Army Major-General (MG) Melvyn Ong, Dr Ng launched the Dynamic Defence Display showcasing the Army's latest platforms and sharpest edge capabilities, and toured the NS50 Showcase which highlights the evolution of National Service over the last five decades, as well as the achievements of national servicemen in defending and safeguarding Singapore.
Visitors to AOH17@City can see and experience a wide range of exhibits and activities. From the line-up of the Army's military platforms on display, to family-friendly activities such as the Soldier Strong Challenge and Battle Rides, the Open House seeks to provide an immersive experience for all generations.
Sharing at the event, MG Melvyn Ong said, "Through AOH17@City, we hope to share the strength of our Army with fellow Singaporeans. At the same time, given that this is the 50th year of NS, we hope that the Army Open House and the NS50 Showcase honours our national servicemen who have served, their families, loved ones, employers, and the wider Singapore community who have supported the Singapore Army and NS."
Following the conclusion of AOH17@City, the Open House will move into the heartlands (AOH17@Heartlands) to allow more Singaporeans to experience the Army. AOH17@Heartlands will be held from 2 to 4 June 2017 at Punggol, and from 9 to 11 June 2017 at Jurong East. Members of the public may visit the Singapore Army Facebook page for more details.
