Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen hosted French Minister of Defence Jean-Yves Le Drian to tea earlier today. Mr Le Drian is accompanying French President François Hollande for his State Visit to Singapore from 26 to 27 March 2017.
During the tea, Dr Ng and Mr Le Drian reaffirmed both countries' commitment to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and discussed a wide range of geopolitical developments.
Singapore and France share a strong and broad-based defence relationship. The Republic of Singapore Air Force has conducted flying training at Cazaux Air Base in France since 1998, and both air forces frequently interact through various professional exchanges. Both sides also conduct regular high-level meetings, joint military exercises, cross-attendance of courses, as well as cooperate in defence technology. These wide-ranging interactions have strengthened the friendship and mutual understanding between Singapore and France.
