Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen giving his speech at the Defence Technology Prize (DTP) Award Ceremony 2021 at the DSO Auditorium this afternoon.
Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen presented the Defence Technology Prize (DTP) to two individuals and six teams at the DTP award ceremony held at the DSO National Laboratories (DSO) this afternoon. Among them were individuals and teams from MINDEF agencies – including the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and DSO National Laboratories – and the defence industry. There was also a special COVID-19 segment this year to recognise the Defence Technology Community (DTC)'s efforts in supporting Singapore's fight against COVID-19.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Dr Ng highlighted the integral role that the DTC plays in Singapore's defence. He commended the DTC's strong collaboration with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the efforts of its personnel in delivering key capabilities, and said, "Our capabilities within MINDEF and the SAF were built on years of hard work and steady progress. The high standards of both communities, of the SAF and the DTC are synergistic. Each adds and challenges the other, and the result is that the sum of parts are greater than the whole."
Dr Ng also praised the DTC's contributions to the nation's efforts against COVID-19. He said, "MINDEF and SAF personnel owned the problem from day one and tackled it head on. The results speak for themselves – mission success and admiration for the capabilities of our people in MINDEF and the SAF." He added, "The DTC has proven yourselves, that you are a precious and vital resource for the nation. You are Singapore's secret and not-so-secret edge capability."
Established in 1989, the DTP is awarded annually to individuals and teams that have made significant technological contributions to the defence capabilities of Singapore. The DTP also serves to foster technological innovation and encourage breakthroughs in defence science and technology.
