Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong, reviewed the 31st Specialist Cadet Graduation Parade at Pasir Laba Camp this evening. A total of 1,200 Specialist Cadets comprising 1,076 from the Singapore Army, 55 from the Republic of Singapore Navy and 69 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force graduated as Specialists of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Addressing the graduands at the parade, Mr Tan noted that Singapore commemorates 50 years of National Service (NS) this year, and that "NS has been an integral part of our nation-building efforts. Generations of Singaporeans of all backgrounds are brought together for a common objective and purpose." Mr Tan also highlighted the continued role that the Specialists play in securing Singapore's peace and security, and the need to remain vigilant and prepared for terrorist attacks. "Let us not take the peace we enjoy today for granted. We live without fear of war or subjugation because the men and women of the SAF guard our air, land and sea 24/7. You, who will become Specialists in the SAF, will now join them in defending our home and families," he said.
The graduation parade marked the completion of the 22-week Specialist Cadet Course, where the graduands trained under rigorous and realistic conditions to develop leadership and combat skills, and deepen their understanding of the other vocations in the SAF. Present at the parade were families and friends of the graduands and senior SAF officers.
