Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How visited the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)'s Air Combat Command (ACC) Fighter Group at Paya Lebar Air Base this morning. During the visit, Mr Heng was briefed on the roles and operational capabilities of ACC Fighter Group. He took a flight on board the F-15SG fighter jet, where he witnessed how the RSAF conducts air defence training. Mr Heng also interacted with RSAF aircrew and ground crew, thanking them for their dedication and commitment to Singapore's defence.
Speaking after the visit, Mr Heng commended the RSAF's operational readiness in safeguarding Singapore's skies. "We must never forget that actually we are able to sleep in peace at night only because our skies are secure. And our Air Force, through their training, through their 24/7 operational readiness, gives us the guarantee and Singaporeans should feel confident," he said.
The visit was hosted by Commander Fighter Group, Colonel Sim Peng Shin. The ACC Fighter Group operates the F-15SG and F-16 fighter aircraft. The fleet maintains a high level of operational readiness and stands ready to respond swiftly to any threats to Singapore's security. On three separate occasions in 2018 and 2019, the RSAF responded successfully to alleged bomb threats aboard civil airliners, where RSAF fighter jets safely escorted these civil airliners to land at Changi Airport.
