Fact Sheet: Restructured ACCORD and its Members

The Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence (ACCORD), established by MINDEF in January 1984 with a wide representation across the different sectors of society, has been a useful channel of feedback on MINDEF/SAF's policies and programmes and other issues related to the nation's defence.

Taking input from the Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS) Working Groups, MINDEF restructured ACCORD and created three Councils under its ambit - an Employer and Business Council (E&B), an Educational Institutions Council (EI), and a Family and Community Council (F&C). With the new structure, ACCORD will be able to better engage employers, family members and members of the broader community, as well as facilitate initiatives that support National Service and Total Defence. See Figure 1 for the revised structure of ACCORD.
