German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius is in Singapore from 23 to 25 March 2026 for an official visit. Mr Pistorius called on Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing this evening at The Fullerton Hotel, where they reaffirmed the strong and substantive defence relations between Singapore and Germany. They exchanged views on geopolitical developments, including the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. They also agreed to work together on cross-regional security challenges such as the security of critical underwater infrastructure and supply chain resilience.
Following the call, both Ministers witnessed the signing of a Supply Chain Resiliency Arrangement between Singapore and Germany which strengthens both countries’ defence supply chains to deal with unforeseen disruptions. Both Ministers also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) and ST Engineering Marine on strengthening cooperation on submarine maintenance.
Earlier this morning, Mr Pistorius called on Prime Minister Mr Lawrence Wong at the Istana with Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad in attendance. As part of his visit, Mr Pistorius presented the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz) to former Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, in recognition of his outstanding contributions towards strengthening defence ties between both countries. Mr Pistorius also visited the DSO National Laboratories-led Quantum Sensing Centre and Changi Naval Base.
Mr Pistorius’s visit underscores the strong and substantive bilateral defence ties between Singapore and Germany. Both countries cooperate and interact frequently through high-level visits and dialogues, military-to-military exchanges, cross-attendance of professional courses, as well as defence technology collaboration. These interactions have reinforced ties between the two defence establishments, underpinned by the enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement signed in 2018.
