The United States (US) Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James, who is in Singapore for an introductory visit from 23 to 25 August, called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence this morning. During their meeting, Dr Ng and Secretary James reaffirmed the excellent and long-standing bilateral defence relationship and discussed the wide range of defence cooperation between both countries, such as the US' support for the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)'s training in the US.
Secretary James' visit underscores the strong partnership between the US Air Force and the RSAF. Both air forces interact extensively through bilateral and multilateral exercises, such as Exercise Commando Sling which will be conducted later this week, as well as other regular professional exchanges. These interactions help to strengthen cooperation and interoperability between the two air forces, and also deepen rapport and mutual understanding between their personnel.
As part of her programme, Secretary James also called on Chief of Air Force Major-General Mervyn Tan earlier today. She will visit Paya Lebar Air Base this afternoon, and be hosted to an official dinner by Permanent Secretary (Defence) Mr Chan Yeng Kit.
