Minister of State for Communications & Information and Health, Mr Chee Hong Tat, reviewed the 30th Specialist Cadet Graduation Parade at Pasir Laba Camp this evening. A total of 1,125 Specialist Cadets comprising 1,018 from the Singapore Army, 68 from the Republic of Singapore Navy, and 39 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force graduated as Specialists of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Addressing the graduands at the parade, Mr Chee noted that Singapore commemorates 50 years of National Service this year, and that "it is an opportune time for us to reflect on what this milestone means to us as a nation, and as an individual, for the threats that confront Singapore will be no less challenging compared to 50 years ago". Mr Chee also highlighted the continued role that the Specialists play in securing Singapore’s peace and security, in the face of a security environment which is increasingly complex with multi-faceted challenges and threats. "We also need to remain agile and vigilant, ready to tackle known and unknown threats that might come our way…Beyond equipment and technology, the true strength of the SAF lies in its people - the dedication of our men and women forms the solid foundation of a strong SAF. As Specialists, we will depend on you, and your men and women will depend on you to lead with strength and skill. As you continue to hone your combat skills, remember that the important role you play contributes to a bigger part of the Singapore story," he said.
The graduation parade marked the completion of the 22-week Specialist Cadet Course, where the graduands trained under rigorous and realistic conditions to develop leadership and combat skills, and deepen their understanding of the other vocations in the SAF. Present at the parade were families and friends of the graduands and senior SAF officers.
