Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing visited the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) personnel in Temburong, Brunei this morning. He was accompanied by Chief of Army Major-General (MG) Cai Dexian and other senior SAF officers.
During Minister’s visit, Mr Chan interacted with the officer cadets training in Temburong, Brunei. Mr Chan commended the SAF personnel’s professionalism and commitment in conducting their training with excellence. Given that Brunei’s diverse terrain is unlike Singapore’s, it provides an invaluable experience for officer cadets’ training, shaping them into capable and resilient leaders.
During his engagement with the cadets, Mr Chan said, “Hardly any military send their soldiers with less than six months’ experience to train in the jungle; for us to send them for a Jungle Confidence Course in Temburong to survive out on their own for nine days, speaks volume of the quality of our training and safety system and our confidence in it.”
Singapore and Brunei share a close and longstanding defence relationship. In addition to the valuable jungle training which the SAF conducts in Brunei, both militaries also interact through frequent bilateral exercises, professional exchanges, visits and cross-attendance of courses. These exchanges have strengthened the friendship and professional ties between the two armed forces.
