Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen hosted New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters to lunch this afternoon.
During the meeting, both ministers reaffirmed the close and long-standing bilateral relations between Singapore and New Zealand, of which defence is an important pillar. DPM Peters and Dr Ng also discussed international and regional security issues, including developments in Southeast Asia as well as the importance of multilateral cooperation through fora such as the Five Power Defence Arrangements.
Dr Ng’s meeting with DPM Peters is part of a series of high-level interactions between Singapore and New Zealand. Both militaries also interact regularly through high-level visits, professional exchanges, and joint military training. These interactions have enhanced the interoperability and people-to-people ties between the personnel of both armed forces.
DPM Peters is in Singapore for an official visit from 22 to 24 April 2018.
