The 27th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM), hosted by the Singapore Army, concluded today. Held in Singapore from 6 to 22 Nov 2017, the 27th AARM saw 550 shooters from all 10 ASEAN armies coming together to display their professional skills and to build friendships. AARM seeks to bolster professional interaction, and strengthen social bonds and camaraderie amongst the ASEAN armies. This year's shooting competition consisted of five disciplines -- Carbine, Machine Gun, Pistol Ladies, Pistol Men and Rifle. This is the fourth time that Singapore has hosted the AARM.
Chief of Army, Major-General Melvyn Ong, officiated at the closing ceremony this morning. Congratulating all the winners and emphasising the importance of AARM, he said, "AARM is a very important event on the annual calendar of all ASEAN Armies." With the Singapore Army also hosting the ASEAN Chiefs of Army Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM) and the ASEAN Armies Sergeant Majors Annual Meeting (ASMAM), he added that "everybody in the ASEAN Army world comes together and we must continue to do that because it helps to keep us connected and helps to keep ASEAN strong. The tournament may have come to a close, but we are one and our camaraderie, our friendships will surely prevail." Also present at the event were the Army Chiefs from the nine other ASEAN armies.
The Singapore Army achieved notable results in this year's AARM, ranking (i) second in the Machine Gun Overall Team Championship, (ii) second in both the Pistol Men Overall Team and Overall Individual Championship, and (iii) third in both the Pistol Ladies Overall Team and Overall Individual Championship.
This marks the conclusion of the three major ASEAN army events -- the 27th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet, the 18th ACAMM and the 7th ASMAM, all of which aim to deepen friendships and cooperation between the ASEAN armies.
