The Commanding General of the US Army Pacific (USARPAC) General (GEN) Charles Flynn called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) today. During their meeting, Dr Ng and GEN Flynn reaffirmed the long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and the US, and discussed efforts to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
GEN Flynn, who is in Singapore from 20 to 22 March 2022 for his introductory visit, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong and Chief of Army Brigadier-General David Neo after inspecting a Guard of Honour at MINDEF. As part of his visit, GEN Flynn visited Headquarters 6th Division/Headquarters Sense and Strike yesterday, where he received a brief on the Singapore Army's Sense and Strike transformation, and also viewed static displays of the Hunter Armoured Fighting Vehicle and the VELOCE 15 mini-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. GEN Flynn also delivered a speech at the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College's Distinguished Speaker's Dialogue titled, "The Importance of Land Forces in the Indo-Pacific".
GEN Flynn's visit underscores the excellent and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and the US. The Singapore Army and the USARPAC interact regularly through bilateral and multilateral exercises, professional exchanges and the cross-attendance of courses. Beyond enhancing the professionalism and cooperation of the two armies, these interactions also strengthened the friendship and mutual understanding between their personnel.
Relevant health checks and safe management measures were taken by the visiting delegation.
