Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean hosted a dinner this evening to recognise the commitment and contributions of more than 200 volunteers serving on 30 Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) boards and committees. Mr Teo also presented certificates of appointment and re-appointment to 59 volunteers at the dinner.
Mr Teo emphasised that besides having committed and ready regulars and citizen soldiers to defend our country, it also takes the expertise and resources of all Singaporeans who are committed to defence, to ensure Singapore's continued peace and stability. Thanking the volunteers, Mr Teo said, "MINDEF greatly appreciates your efforts. You add to the collective commitment and determination of Singaporeans from all sectors and different walks of life to make a contribution to Singapore's defence. By volunteering as members of the public, you take personal ownership of the development of the SAF and represent the nation's support and backing for it."
The volunteers, who are experts in their fields from the private and public sectors, help keep MINDEF updated on corporate best practices and enhance its organisational processes. They also play an important part in promoting defence awareness among the public and strengthening the link between MINDEF and the public. Since 1998, the annual dinner has been held to thank the volunteers for their dedicated service and invaluable contributions to MINDEF.
