Chief of the Australian Defence Force General (GEN) Angus Campbell reviewing a Guard of Honour at the Ministry of Defence.
Chief of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) General (GEN) Angus Campbell called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. During the meeting, Dr Ng and GEN Campbell reaffirmed the close and long-standing bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Australia and the good progress made in deepening the relationship between the two militaries. Dr Ng and GEN Campbell welcomed the steady progress made in the joint development of training areas and advanced training facilities in Queensland, which will benefit both the ADF and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). They also exchanged views on geopolitical and security developments, such as the threat of terrorism.
GEN Campbell, who is in Singapore for his introductory visit from 20 to 22 February 2019, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong and reviewed a Guard of Honour earlier in the morning at MINDEF. In the afternoon, GEN Campbell delivered a speech at the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College (GKS CSC)'s Distinguished Speaker's Dialogue titled, "The Importance of the Australian-Singapore Relationship in the Indo-Pacific Region." He also visited Sembawang Air Base where he took a familiarisation flight on board a Republic of Singapore Air Force Super Puma helicopter.
GEN Campbell's visit underscores the close and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between Singapore and Australia. The SAF and the ADF share a long history of military cooperation with extensive interactions that include bilateral and multilateral training exercises, high-level visits, professional exchanges, and joint operational deployments.
